The first normal day

I've been here three weeks now and every day has been an adventure or something special about that day.  However, today was just a regular day.  I have been pushing myself hard this week and my legs have been sore.  Since I have 5 more weeks to go, I decided to take it easy on the hike this morning.

Saturday hikes are supposed to be easier.  The beach hike is always an option and then there are two more hikes.  Monday through Friday each van is assigned hikes by the program director, but on Saturday, each guest gets to chose their hike from the three options.

I chose the beach hike because to be honest, I just wanted to walk and make it easy for my legs.  At the beach, there is a road that provides access to the beach and runs along the side of the entire beach.  There is always an option to just walk on the road the entire time.  Today I decided to do this.

It was great because I could go at my own speed and work out the soreness in my legs.  Today was just another day at the beach.  There weren't any celebrities that we recognized and the only film crew was a USC class.

Every Saturday afternoon is off for rest and spa treatments.  Well, life goes on and I had to get my income tax stuff organized.  Oh ya, it was lots of fun.  Afterwords I calculated how much I owed and how much I paid and it put me in a bad mood.  So, if I'm boring you, I apologize and I know things will get better next week.

Saturday night is "graduation" and it was what I needed to get me out my bad mood.  The best part of coming here is the people that I have met.  Everyone is awesome, has their own story, and has their own challenges.  The people that push you to do better are not the trainers mostly, but the other guests with you on the hikes and in the classes.

This week there were some big breakthroughs for certain people that involved starting to overcome their fears, and not needing certain medications because the weight is coming off.  It really was inspirational to witness some of these things and hear the stories this evening.

Closing thought for the day:  I've been here for three weeks and when I first arrived, there was one woman in the pool class who was scared of the water and would hold onto the rails the entire time.  Yesterday for the first time, she walked across the pool near the deep end and the image of her doing this will be forever etched in my brain and was the highlight of this week.  This place is more life changing than just weight loss.
